The Ginetta G20

A proper drivers car.

Let’s face it, if you’re going to drive around a race track, would you rather do it in a shiny BMW full of electronic controls doing the job for you, or a raw, pure race car.

Front engined and rear wheel drive, with no ABS, traction control or power steering; our G20’s are not converted road cars, but race cars with full roll cages, 6 point harnesses, and a seat of the pants driving experience so far removed from your daily driver. Weighing 630kgs the performance is astonishing at over 300bhp per tonne and revving to 7500rpm. But it isn’t just about acceleration, it’s the way you feel the car through corners. A responsive road car lets you feel the road through the steering wheel, the G20 speaks to every part of your body; through your backside, your hands, your feet and even your knees as you brace yourself through higher G corners.

Climb in through the roll cage of the G20 and lower yourself into the bucket seat which is almost a laying position. You can just see over the steering wheel and down the long bonnet through the low perspex windscreen. We connect the 6 point harness around you and pull it down tight, compressing you into the car and it starts to feel a little claustrophobic. Turn the big isolator switch, press the start button and the car bursts into life. Everything around you seems to vibrate with the engine revs as you clunk the short gearstick into first. Ease up the heavy clutch and roll out into the pitlane to the wine of the straight cut race gearbox. As you’re waved onto the track the revs build and the whole car seems to vibrate around you as the acceleration out onto the circuit lets you know the G20 means business…

Ginettas G20’s are British made racing cars that ran in their own series supporting the British Touring Car Championship in the 2000’s. Many of them still successfully race in various race series around Europe. Founded in 1958 by the four Walklett brothers, Ginetta has a long and successful history of producing hand built road and race cars. The company currently produces a range of cars including entrants for the GT Championships and Le Mans.
